Genya Devine works in mixed media, drawn always to the shifting edge where water meets sky. Her paintings begin in direct observation and move inward toward something more essential: the feeling of light on a particular afternoon, the weight of a horizon before a storm, the quality of stillness a coastline holds.
Genya Devine is a mixed media painter whose practice is grounded in the plein air tradition, shaped by years spent observing the light conditions and atmospheric character of the northeastern coastline.
Each work begins as direct observation outdoors and is developed in the studio, moving from documentation toward expression. The process is as much about what is withheld as what is shown. Devine is interested in the threshold between a place and the feeling that place produces.
She exhibits throughout the region and accepts a small number of commissions each year. Original works and prints are available through this site.
